Our Approach: Learning From and Growing With Hunting Park-East Tioga

H. Chase Lenfest Philanthropy was founded to engage the Hunting Park-East Tioga community through transformative strategic partnerships that strengthen community health, revitalize the neighborhood's environment, and empower young people to thrive. In our first grant cycle, we supported a diverse range of community organizations, learning from each partnership what truly moves the needle in creating lasting change.

These lessons have shaped the fall grant cycle. We've learned that the strength of transformation requires more than addressing immediate needs—it demands long-term investment in fundamental systems. This grants cycle reflects this learning.

We're focusing our resources on three interconnected priorities that our learning has identified as foundational:

  • Investing in Educational Excellence through a Friends of Bethune Fund for Mary McLeod Bethune School, ensuring the neighborhood's children have access to enriching programs, resources, and opportunities that prepare them for bright futures.

  • Catalyzing Neighborhood Transformation by supporting comprehensive real estate development that reimagines both the commercial corridors and residential blocks—creating spaces where businesses flourish, neighbors gather, and the physical landscape reflects the vibrancy of the community itself.

  • Preserving Community Roots through critical home repair funding that enables long-time residents to age in place with dignity, maintaining the neighborhood's social fabric while ensuring safe, healthy homes for families.

Through this focused lens, we are pleased to fund pivotal community resource organizations, as well as an established program serving the mental and behavioral health of local students, and an innovative AI-focused initiative that will strengthen North10, Philadelphia itself—employing graduates and students to deliver AI tools for donor development, while providing teaching sessions on this new technology for the community.

We look forward supporting a continued transformation through the roots of excellence held by connective partnerships within the Hunting Park-East Tioga community.
