Mission
H. Chase Lenfest Philanthropy's mission is to transform the Hunting Park-East Tioga neighborhood in North Philadelphia by strategically investing in community-centered initiatives that revitalize the neighborhood, enhance its health and safety, and empower young people. We partner with local organizations to enable residents, foster sustainable growth, and create vibrant, equitable neighborhoods where current and future generations can thrive. In addition, H. Chase Lenfest Philanthropy provides grants that align with the Founder's passions, interests, and values.
Our Story
Since 2002 H. Chase Lenfest Philanthropy (HCL Philanthropy) has been dedicated to improving the lives of youth in Philadelphia's urban communities. Its primary focus has been supporting North10, Philadelphia (North10), an organization revitalizing the Hunting Park-East Tioga neighborhood in North Philadelphia through education, housing, economic development, and wellness initiatives.
Through this support, North10 and its partners have driven economic growth, expanded housing options, enhanced learning opportunities, and promoted wellness among all community members. This commitment extends to the All In Together neighborhood plan, which unites residents and local organizations to address key issues such as safety, cleanliness, youth support, home investment, equitable development, community spaces, health, and corridor improvement.
By aligning its funding with these principles and partnering with North10’s community backbone division, HCL Philanthropy is investing in a brighter future for Philadelphia's urban core, fostering resilience and shared prosperity for current and future generations.​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​

Grantmaking Strategy
The Foundation primarily focuses its grantmaking in the Hunting Park and East Tioga neighborhoods of North Philadelphia, and funds in three critical areas that align with the pillars of North 10, Philadelphia’s mission and the goals of the All In Together neighborhood plan:

Under certain circumstances, H. Chase Lenfest Philanthropy will grant outside of our geographic and strategic parameters at the discretion of the Trustee.

Programs that improve the well-being of Hunting Park-East Tioga neighborhood residents through safe public spaces and opportunities for recreation, healing, and education.
Environmental & Neighborhood Revitalization
Programs that enhance the Hunting Park-East Tioga neighborhood’s physical environment by reducing trash and dumping, revitalizing commercial corridors, and empowering residents to improve their homes and blocks.
Equitable Growth & Youth Empowerment
Programs that focus on the equitable economic development of the Hunting Park-East Tioga neighborhood, civically engage residents, and invest in learning and enrichment opportunities for youth.
